I am the author of these games and I hold the copyright to them and to these patches. I represent to you that I have the authority to provide these files to the public. Please place them in a public Macintosh games folder (strategy or wargames would be best). If you have any questions or comments, please drop me a line. I have never done this before, so be gentle with me =). In a day or so, I will upload a demo of my latest program. Thanks for your help. Keith Zabalaoui Atomic Games keithz@neosoft.com --========================_13739020==_ Content-Type: text/plain; name="V_for_Victory_4.01_Update_Notes"; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="V_for_Victory_4.01_Update_Notes" ** Instructions for patching V for Victory applications to version 4.01 ** April 16, 1994 1) Determine what version of V for Victory you are currently using. Normally, you would click once on the application and select "Get Info" from the File menu. Unfortunately, versions 3.0, 3.11, and 4.0 all tell you they are version 3.0, so this method doesn't really work for us in all cases. Instead, refer to the following chart: If you bought then you have __________ ___________ - Utah Beach v1.0 or v1.1 (Get Info is correct) - Velikiye Luki v2.0 (Get Info is correct) - Market Garden v3.0 (Get Info may not be correct) - VicPak v3.11 (Get Info is not correct) - Gold Juno Sword v4.0 (Get Info is not correct) 2) Then determine if you are using the FPU version or the non-FPU version. Except for Utah Beach 1.0, each release came with an FPU version and a non-FPU version. Unless you renamed the application, it will have FPU or non-FPU in the title. If you have changed the name of the application, then the BEST thing to do is to reinstall the original application from the distribution disk. Otherwise, you'll just have to guess at which one you have. Utah Beach 1.0 owners will be able to decide which they want (FPU or non-FPU). FPU stands for Floating Point Unit. The FPU is a special chip that speeds up certain math calculations. All machines with the 68040 have an FPU and most machines with the 68030 have one. Machines with 68000, 68010, and 68020 processors probably don't have FPUs but they might. If you just don't know if you machine has an FPU, then there is no harm upgrading your program to a non-FPU version. The upgraded program will actually tell you if you have an FPU, so if you want to, you can then download the FPU patch. 3) Ok, now you have (hopefully) determined the version of V for Victory that you have, as well as whether or not you need the FPU version. To determine which files you will need to download, refer to the following chart: Version Files to download ______ ______________ - 1.0 V4V 1.0->4.01 (FPU) update -or- V4V 1.0->4.01 (no FPU) update V4V Color 4.01 -or- V4V B&W 4.01 Utah Beach Color update -or- Utah Beach B&W update UB Scenarios 4.01 - 1.1 V4V 1.1->4.01 (FPU) update -or- V4V 1.1->4.01 (no FPU) update V4V Color 4.01 -or- V4V B&W 4.01 UB Scenarios 4.01 - 2.0 V4V 2.0->4.01 (FPU) update -or- V4V 2.0->4.01 (no FPU) update V4V Color 4.01 -or- V4V B&W 4.01 VL Scenarios 4.01 - 3.0 V4V 3.0->4.01 (FPU) update -or- V4V 3.0->4.01 (no FPU) update V4V Color 4.01 -or- V4V B&W 4.01 MG Scenarios 4.01 - 3.11 V4V 3.11->4.01 (FPU) update -or- V4V 3.11->4.01 (no FPU) upda= te V4V Color 4.01 -or- V4V B&W 4.01 UB Scenarios 4.01 VL Scenarios 4.01 MG Scenarios 4.01 - 4.0 V4V 4.0->4.01 (FPU) update -or- V4V 4.0->4.01 (no FPU) update 4) IMPORTANT: Before you download anything or apply the patches, make BACKUPS of you the V for Victory files on your hard drive. This is just in case some goes wrong, goes wrong, goes wrong=8A 5) Download the appropriate files. Go get a Coke=81. 6) Double click on the update file. It will show you the standard file box. It wants you to locate the original V for Victory application. The patcher is very good at finding it itself (usually), but verify that the old version has been selected. Then click on the Update button. The updater will make your version into version 4.01 and will erase the old file. 7) Now throw away your current (old) Victory Color and/Victory B&W files. (1.0 users don't have these files and should throw NOTHING away yet.) Double click on the V4V Color 4.01.sea or V4V B&W 4.01.sea file (whichever one you downloaded.) Put the expanded file into your V for Victory folder. 8) - 4.0 users are DONE! and should skip to step 10. - 1.0 users should skip this part and go to step 9. - 1.1 users need to locate the folder named Utah Beach that is inside their V for Victory folder. Inside THAT folder, is another folder named Utah Scenarios. Rename that folder to UB Scenarios and proceed with the instructions in this section. Almost done. Now, inside your V for Victory folder, you should have at least one other folder, named Utah Beach, Velikiye Luki, or Market Garden. Inside each of these folders is still another folder named UB Scenarios, VL Scenarios, or MG Scenarios. Throw away these Scenario folders. Now double click on the UB Scenarios 4.01.sea, VL Scenarios 4.01.sea, and/or MG Scenarios 4.01.sea files and place the expanded folder(s) into the appropriate folder. You are DONE! and can proceed to step 10. 9) 1.0 users, its just us now. You all need to update your Utah Beach Color and Utah Beach B&W files. So, use the appropriate patcher (Utah Beach Color update or Utah Beach B&W update) as you did in step 6 for your application. Once completed, - Throw away your old Utah Scenarios folder - Make a new folder named Utah Beach - Place the new Utah Beach Color or Utah Beach B&W files into the new Utah Beach folder - Double click on the UB Scenarios 4.01.sea and place the expanded folder into the appropriate folder. You are DONE! 10) As a final check, make sure your V for Victory folder is set up in the following manner: V for Victory Folder | |_V for Victory 4.01 (FPU) -or- V for Victory 4.01 (non-FPU) |_Victory Color -or- Victory B&W (and one or more of the following) |_Utah Beach |_Utah Beach Color -or- Utah Beach B&W |_ UB Scenarios |_Campaign |_Final Assault |_Mopping Up |_Objective Carentan |_Race for Carteret |_SS Counter Attack |_Utah Beach |_Velikiye Luki |_Velikiye Color -or- Velikiye B&W |_ VL Scenarios |_Campaign |_Eight More Kilometers |_Fortress in the Snow |_Into the City |_Last Chance |_Red Storm |_To the Rescue |_Velikiye Luki |_Market Garden |_Market Color -or- Market B&W |_ MG Scenarios |_"A Bridge Too Far" |_Breakout of 30th Corps |_Destruction of the 1st |_Groesbeeck Heights |_Hell's Highway |_Market Garden |_Screaming Eagles |_The First Bridge |_Gold-Juno-Sword |_GJS Color -or- GJS B&W |_ GJS Scenarios |_Attack Of The 12th SS |_Charge Of The Bull |_Gold-Juno-Sword |_Off The Beaches |_The End Run |_The Orne Bridges |_To Caen! |_To The Sea We hope that this file and this last-ever V for Victory upgrade solves any problems you may be having with the old versions of the program. As you may or may not know, Atomic Games (the designers, developers, and owners of V for Victory) and Three-Sixty Pacific (the publishers of the series and the holder of the trademarks to the title and logo) are no longer collaborating on projects. Atomic Games is now working with The Avalon Hill Game Company and has just released Operation Crusader, the first in the new World at War series. Three-Sixty Pacific has recently released Victory at Sea and will soon release Harpoon II. --========================_13739020==_--
